One of Hollywood’s brightest comedians is joining the Transformers franchise. The Hollywood Reporter reports that SNL alumni Pete Davidson has been cast in the upcoming Transformers: Rise of the Beast for Paramount Pictures. The report adds that legendary action star Michelle Yeoh has also come on board for the seventh installment of the franchise.

Pete Davidson will voice a character name Mirage, and Michelle Yeoh will lend her voice to a character name Airazor in Transformers: Rise of the Beast. The movie is inspired by the 1990 Beast Wars property. In the Heights star, Anthony Ramos was the first actor to have been cast in the film.

Fans got their first look at Optimus Primal in the Transformers sequel on June 2022. Primal and Pete Davidson’s Mirage are just some of the characters making their onscreen debut in Transformers: Rise of the Beast. Veteran voice actor Peter Cullen was confirmed to be returning to voice Optimus Prime.

It’s incredible that the first Transformers film directed by Michael Bay was 15 years ago. Fans had no idea how rocky the franchise would become and the controversial elements incorporated in each entry. Here’s hoping the addition of a new director and talented performers like Pete Davidson means Transformers: Rise of the Beasts will be a hit both financially and critically.

One has to wonder how the film’s success will impact the supposed live-action Transformers show in the works for Paramount+. We reported through our trusted and proven sources that Paramount is looking to expand the Transformers IP. Maybe Pete Davidson’s character in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts will appear in the upcoming show.

It all depends on whether the film is a hit. The Pete Davidson blockbuster action flick is set for a June 9, 2023, release date. Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is positioned right in the middle of a competitive summer.

The one thing Rise of the Beasts has on its side is a very compelling and new story the general audience has yet to witness on the big screen. The original Best Wars animated show was set 300 years after the events of the first Transformers series. It’s possible the studio chose to adapt the story because they want to distance themselves from the Michael Bay films and introduce new characters, such as the one Pete Davidson is playing in the new movie.

However, early reports suggest the movie will take place in 1994 after the events of Bumblebee. The time period still gives the studio a bit of distance from the Michael Bay era. We must see how Pete Davidson’s character and others in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts impact the franchise.

It’s also interesting to hear that Pete Davidson is joining a movie like this one. The actor recently shot a romantic comedy with Kaley Cuoco called Meet Cute. Many fans still remember his days on Saturday Night Live and his tumultous relationship with Kim Kardashian.

Does Pete Davidson joining Transformers: Rise of the Beasts means he’ll become Hollywood’s most sought-after talent someday? Only time will tell.
