Minnie Driver is getting candid about her infamous (and relatable) reaction to her ex-boyfriend, Matt Damon, winning an Academy Award for their movie, Good Will Hunting, in 1998 — and she’s not holding back.
After the Instagram account Movie Shmood shared a throwback clip back of Damon and Ben Affleck winning an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay in October, which included a shot of Driver’s face looking less than thrilled during the speech, the actress was sure to call herself out in the comments section, writing, “My face 😂😂😂😂❤️.”
Moments later, Driver also decided to give fans of the film further insight as to why she looked forlorn by responding to a user who had commented, “Minnie looks so sad.”
“Matt had ended our relationship a few weeks before this, and was at the Oscars with his new gf... I was devastated,” she replied. “Wish I could have celebrated more as it was an amazing moment for all of us, and for this wonderful film!”
Matt and Minnie started dating in 1997 after meeting on set of Good Will Hunting before eventually splitting less than a year later in 1998. Driver’s most recent comments come shortly after she opened up about their brief relationship yet again when talking to Entertainment Tonight last year, where she called the breakup a “strange, surreal dream.”
“I don't care who you are, that is agony and it's like a strange, surreal dream," she said of their public split. "But I know he didn't put that picture there. It's so tricky, because it's not deliberate, he couldn't have helped how famous he became and how his life was being picked over, in the same way that mine was.”
Damon eventually went on to marry his now-wife Luciana Barroso in 2005 while Driver tied the knot with filmmaker Addison O'Dea in 2018.
