Star Wars: The Bad Batch is following Clone Force 99 after the events of the Clone Wars. This sixteen-episode animated series is its own story following its own characters, but like most series in the franchise, it’s also shedding light on fan favorites from other Star Wars projects. While Boba Fett doesn’t appear in The Bad Batch, the character is discussed.

Bounty Lost is in the ninth episode in the series. The episode was available for streaming on June 25, 2021. It’s a while in before Boba Fett is mentioned. During the episode, a bounty hunter named Cad Bane captured Omega and dropped her in a holding cell. The rest of Clone Force 99 is now left questioning why the bounty hunter has worked so hard to get her back. What do the Kaminoans want her for so badly? More of Omega’s background is then revealed.

Omega isn’t a genetically modified clone, like the rest of her people. Instead, she is an actual genetic replication of Jango Fett, a bounty hunter. Jango Fett is a very famous and very respected bounty hunter. Then some big news is revealed for those paying careful attention. It’s said that, “To my knowledge, there’s only one other. A male clone code-named Alpha, later referred to as Boba.” That’s right. Boba Fett.

So now we’ve learned that Boba Fett had another name: Alpha. Also that there’s a significant link between Alpha and Omega, in their naming and DNA. While Star Wars: The Bad Batch isn’t going to be seen by everyone who watched The Book of Boba Fett, this does take another step toward setting up that series and letting audiences know that there is so much more to know about this character. It also lets us know that the people working on the animated series, The Book of Boba Fett, and other Star Wars projects are working on some continuity for their wider universe and setting things up. These are all good signs to get audiences excited for The Book of Boba Fett.

The new live-action series will see Temuera Morrison as Boba Fett. They’ve said that the new series will be focusing in on the character’s past, which tracks with what The Bad Batch has set up in this one line of dialogue.

The new Disney+ series is actually only expected to be four episodes. The Book of Boba Fett a miniseries meant to tell this specific story. Some have said to consider it The Mandalorian season 2.5. The series is planned to air in December 2021, so it isn’t that far into the future for Star Wars fans who are soon going to be seeing a lot more projects in the universe. Prior to recent appearances in the universe, we used to only know Boba Fett as a masked bounty hunter. He’s a character we’ve always seen around, but not really known. Despite that, he has his own following of dedicated fans wanting to know more. The four episodes are going to provide that, and as the title suggests, write the book on who he is and how he became the character we know. And, as other projects have continued to do so far, we can bet that The Book of Boba Fett will setup more questions about future projects in the franchise.
