68-year-old Kevin Costner is an American actor. He is also a producer, director, and musician who is most famous for his roles in titles like "Field of Dreams," "The Untouchables," and "The Bodyguard."

He was happily married for some years. However, that union has recently begun to fall apart. The pair have decided to split. The details of the divorce have recently been shared with the public.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that Costner's wife had filed for divorce. They were married for 18 years, and a rep or Costner asked that fans give the family privacy during the tumultuous time.

Costner's first marriage, which also ended in divorce, was said to be because of infidelity on Costner's part, too. Yet his friend confirmed:

"There was no issue of cheating at all."

The friend also mentioned that Costner was surprised by the divorce and did not want it to happen because he greatly loved his wife and children. Costner and his wife share three children; Cayden, 15; Hayes, 14; and Grace, 12.

The couple's last public appearance was at the Oscars in March, and they appeared to be happily married then. His friend mentioned that he was disappointed by Christine filing for divorce.

Costner spends much of his time away from home filming "Yellowstone," which some thought might pressure their relationship—the production of films in Montana.

The perils of being in the public eye were not lost on Costner, either. He once admitted:

"The temptations are pretty strong, and there's a hungry world out there waiting for you to fall. So you can't even dabble without paying a huge price."

Costner also said he attempts to live with as much dignity and discretion as possible to be the best person he can be for himself and his family. His friend confirmed he had no other relationships outside of his marriage.

When news broke about the couple's divorce, fans of Costner's began speculating why his wife may have called it quits. One thought: "She's 49; he's almost 70. Not a shocker that she realized it's time to jet, make a payday, and find a younger guy."

Another said his wife was a gold digger. The fan mentioned that he hoped Costner would have signed a prenup before marrying her. Another joked:

"That's what happens when you marry a kid."

Some fans thought of the couple's children, saying they should wait until their children had graduated from high school and left home before ending their marriage.

One fan even wrote a poem about the star's alleged cheating and pleading with fellow fans to send Costner love and kindness during a difficult time in his life instead of finding fault with everything he's done.

Custody, Prenup, Details of the Divorce

When Costner's friend was asked if they knew the reason his friend's wife had filed for divorce, the friend mused:

"I have no idea if [Costner] even knows what the reasons are."

They then mentioned that when the "Yellowstone" cast discovered the divorce, they were shocked as Costner did not have to stay on set while filming and often went home to visit his family.

After Costner's wife filed for divorce, she asked that the couple share joint custody of their three children. However, she has not requested spousal support because there is an alleged prenup to protect Costner's $250 million fortune.

Costner's rep declined to talk about anything to do with what the couple had decided to do in terms of their finances. It said circumstances beyond Costner's control had resulted in the dissolution of his marriage.

There is also alleged "separate property" in their agreement that states jewelry, miscellaneous items, and earnings acquired before, during their marriage, and after their separation will remain in possession of the person who originally obtained them.

While Costner's wife is forging forward with the divorce proceedings, they have seemed happy for some time. In November last year, Costner talked about his wife, gushing:

"The house is prettier because of her. Everything is warmer because of her. There's these little things that she does - and I think that's the power of love - but that she makes her home that way."

At the same time, he talked about fatherhood, saying it had taught him that the world didn't revolve around him and that his role in life was to be a provider for his family as a father and a husband.

Costner said people got the wrong idea about the way his life worked. He confirmed that when he wasn't filming, he was spending time with his wife and waiting for their children to come home from parties or driving them to their extracurricular activities.

The actor not only shares his three youngest children with his soon-to-be ex-wife, but he also shares four older children with other women. He shares Joe, Lily, and Annie with Cindy Costner and Liam Costner with Bridget Rooney.

His friend mentioned that Costner is still filming and said: "You don't expect your wife to file for divorce when you least expect it." While he didn't plan on returning to the show after this season, the production team said they would be happy to have him. Costner has requested privacy during this difficult time.
